New Momma Wants

Wow! Six months really goes by fast, I can’t believe it’s been so long since my last post, but I have a lot brewing, and I don’t just mean ideas for the blog ;)

I’m Expecting! Zach, the girls and I are expecting baby #3, and we are over joyed!

Along with the impending excitement of a new baby I have some super cute ideas and DIYs I HAVE to get done before baby is born :) So stay tuned for all of that fun!

Anyways, back to the post. So for the past 6 months our family has been super busy with the start of a new school year, after school activities and of course the first three months of this pregnancy I was so exhausted I would consider it a GREAT day if I got the dishes done!

Along with all the exhaustion came the thinking and planning, this is my favorite part! Now, I don’t have too much planning to do, right now the ‘nursery’ is the girls’ playroom, so we intend to keep it that way until we move the baby from our room to the nursery. We usually keep the babies with us until they are around three months which makes it much easier for the nightly nursing ;)  We also have decided not to find out the gender of this baby. We tried with our first, she crossed her legs (EVERY time); found out with our second and have decided to keep this one a true surprise. So I won’t even know what kind of decor to plan until the baby comes into this world!

Because I really don’t have too much to think about nursery wise, and I already have all of the baby necessities I’m getting excited about the accessories!

Yes that’s right I said accessories…diaper bag, maternity outfits, nursing outfits, baby blankets and more!

There are two items I can not wait to get for this baby (or maybe me ;) )…

This Pitter Patter Charm is perfect for the new Mamma or Mamma-to-be. This tiny Italian bronze baby shoe, sparkling with inset cubic zirconia stones makes a great gift for yourself or for a friend or family member! It is so cute and makes for the perfect accessory to announce the impending arrival.

The Chelsea Tech Wallet is another new Momma must have, and a super awesome baby shower gift. This snake embossed leather wristlet not only has plenty of room for cash and cards, but there is a special pocket that will fit that all important iPhone!

It has a great removable strap which allows you to toss it into or take out of the diaper bag. When you are with baby have all of your necessities nice and tidy in one place, and when it is date night or girls night out just grab it out of the bag and you are ready to go with a super sleek and stylish wristlet!

So two things done, about a hundred to go before baby is here!

Crisp and Clean Kitchen

Hi there!

Remember back in April my post Goodwill equals GOODBUY!, well I finally got around to re-decorating the tops of my kitchen cupboards, woo-hoo! Now the reason it took me forever and a day to FINALLY get around to completing this project is because I first had to completely clean and degrease the tops and sides of the cupboards from all that greasy cooking i do ;)

Anyways, I finally had my husband home for one day to watch the kiddos as I got down and dirty, literally! The first step was cleaning off all of the grease, for this I found a recipe that worked miracles! I am not kidding you when I say that as soon as I put this solution down there was a line between the black grease and the clean cupboard, so here is the recipe found at vinegartips.com:

Grease Fighter

1 c. white distilled vinegar

1 c. baking soda

1/2 c. ammonia

1 gallon hot water

Combine all ingredients in a large utility bucket, put on some gloves, soak a sponge and start wiping off the grease.

After I completely soaked the grease with this formula I used a dry paper towel to wipe off the solution.

Now onto the fun stuff! As you may or may not know I have been collecting little trinkets to complete the look of my kitchen. Three years ago when we first bought this house I was going for a Tuscany, Italy type decor in the kitchen, lots of beige, deep red and sage colors were happening in the kitchen, not to mention some green leaf plants that were completely covered in grease (yuck!) So when I decided to re-decorate the kitchen I still wanted my red accent (of course!) but I wanted something modern, clean and warm all at the same time. So when I found my three key pieces at Goodwill for a steal I decided to keep the black and white color scheme with little pops of red, and this is what has been three months in the making:

Items found:

white rooster and black ‘Family’ sign at Goodwill

fake white hydrangeas at Hobby Lobby (1/2 off!, and that little jug/vase they’re in, a little DIY from a Sangria bottle!)

antique chalkboard plaque (1 cent! another DIY I will post about a little later)

The ‘Family’ sign was too short, oops, so I just threw an old phone book underneath it and voila, it was perfect!

wine cork container: the jar is a hand-me-down from my aunt, and the corks are of course collected over the years, but you can also find them at any craft store if you don’t drink wine ;)

and these little beauties I found at Hobby Lobby for 80% off! Can you believe they were only $13 for the pair, originally $50

and the retro blender next to them was a hand-me-down from Grandma! (sorry for the empty rack above, I ran out of paper towels that day!)

As for the white shelves that were shown in that same post from Goodwill, well they’re going in my office, which will hopefully be complete before we move in 10 years!!

I LOVE Anthropologie Candles!

Have you ever walked by the Anthropologie store and just fallen in love with the scent that is sweeping out of the doors? Well I have and let me tell you it is intoxicating! The Anthropologie stores burn a certain candle called Capri Blue, its amazing, but also expensive one large jarred candle is $28,

and being a diva on a dime, my budget does not allow me to purchase a cart load of these candles. So when my candle burns down and the wick is gone, I decided to get crafty and find a way to reuse the glorious smelling wax that is leftover enter Pinterest search :)

In my search for how to reuse leftover candle wax, I came across Cranny & B, and guess what she LOVES these candles as well, so she posted an entire step by step guide on how she reused the amazing leftover wax! So I of course jumped off of the computer and got into the kitchen, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this, but sure am glad I found this blog, so here it is, Save the Whales! Save the Anthropologie candles! (DIY).

I did alter one of her steps and I’m not sure which way turned out easier, but instead of putting the old candle in the freezer for a few hours I just poured boiling water into the jar to release the wax, and by doing it this way the aroma filled the house! After leaving it over night to set, I was able to take a butter knife and slice the hardened wax in half to remove it from the jar, and pour out the water, its THAT easy!!

Check out the link and start up-cycling those amazing (expensive) candles!

Fashion Friday: Sweet summer style

I know it has been a few weeks since my last post, but in the weeks to come you will know why… Super Busy May is over and it’s time to head into summer!
I am also a day late in my Fashion Friday post, sorry, so Happy Fashion Saturday!
Last night was my husbands first football fundraiser as head coach and I wanted to make sure I had the perfect outfit for the event.

20120602-142857.jpg
I paired my skinny white jeans, Levi’s with my comfy style tan tee and leopard print flats. I accessorized with my Stella & Dot pendant necklace, rose gold tear drop hoop earrings and rose gold Rhea bangles.
Of course all of this was done in style on a budget. I found my Levi’s on sale $34.99 at Macy’s this past week, the tan tee is a Nordstrom Rack find originally $40, but bought for $8! You just can’t be scared to search through the racks :) My leopard print flats are Rocket Dog from about 3 years ago, but hold up very well. And of course the Stella and Dot accessories are from my personal collection.
So what do you think? Don’t be afraid to break out the white jeans and shorts, try to pair with flats or gladiator style sandals!
Happy Saturday!

Sweet Strawberry Inspiration

My oldest daughter is turning 6 on Monday, May 7! So of course we will be hosting about 20 little girls at our house for a fabulous Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday party!

I am overly excited, because I LOVE parties, but also because I was put on a strict $200 budget for this party, and I DID IT! I came in under $200 including food, favors, drinks, decor and activities.

After the party next week I will have a more detailed post with pictures of my successful “Done In Style” party! But for now here is my inspiration board for the party with links to the images underneath…Enjoy!

Goodwill equals GOODBUY!

Sorry, Ive been meaning to post this for a few weeks, but than Spring Break happened so our fam was away on vacation! But, better late than never!

A few weeks ago at my super fun MOPS meeting  all of us gals went through our closets and wardrobes and collected any and all clothes or accessories we were ready to part with, it was a clothing drive! Upon arrival we were told any clothes that were not picked up by other moms would be given to the Goodwill, and we (our MOPS group) would receive money for the donation as a fundraiser.

Now I have always been a Goodwill donator, but have only recently become a thrifty Goodwill buyer. So I wanted to share some of my great buys, and a little info I received today about Goodwill, and how much you can help others and the community by just SHOPPING :)

Here are some pics of my most recent buys at Goodwill (little trick if you want the good stuff make sure you’re at the store as close to opening as possible, they put all new gear out in the morning) All of these items were selected for some “mini” makeovers I am doing in the house:

FAMILY sign $5

rooster $3

Ceramic square pot $2

Now these white shelves will be going up in my new office, after the “mini” makeover. The large shelf was a navy blue color with red stars, and the smaller shelf was a bright red color (sorry forgot to take before pictures) a little spray paint ($6) and good as brand new!

Large shelf $7

Small shelf $5

These were major steals, I was going to make my hubby make me some new ones so I saved some dough and the headache of getting the shelves actually built :)

Goodwill has transformed it’s image within the past few years, creating “The Goodwill Effect”. When you decide it is time to clean out those closets and rooms of your house drop everything off at Goodwill most of the items will be recycled and refurbished for some other lucky shopper to own for some time, when you donate to Goodwill you are not only getting a tax break :) but saving the environment from more junk going into the landfill. When you shop at goodwill you will find amazing finds and sometimes unique, the profits from those products being sold fund the career development programs that help local people in the community in turn sustaining the community by offering jobs and training for others.

So next time you decide to do a “mini” makeover or major makeover to any room in your house (or your wardrobe, I heard through the grapevine that there was a $3,000 coat sold for $12!) I suggest checking out the goodwill near you. And when it’s time to clean out those closets, crawlspaces and garages get to the Goodwill, help your community and get a tax break :)

ENJOY!
